Customer rating: 2 out of 5 stars Calling this a shooting game is a JOKE!!!

PlatinumNexus | 05/02/2010 | See all PlatinumNexus' reviews (14) »

When I first brought this game i couldnt have praised it more. This is mainly due to the fact that most people who got the game on release day play shooting games properly. Now that most people have it, I just find it a JOKE to call this a shooting game. Dont get me wrong if people played this game properly, like just after release it would be brilliant. Fact is i can count the deaths on 2 fingers that occur from being SHOT in each match. It seems that the only thing people use guns for is to attach a grenade launcher and then either use that, or knife people. This game is a brilliant game spoilt by people who wont play a shooting game properly. I prefer the good old days of the original xbox the home of the best online shooter ive played yet (Rainbow Six 3) for the simple reason you were only ranked by kill ratio and everyone was friendly, yet on COD: MW2 there has rarely been a match where i havent had insults thrown at me and a friend for no reason whatsoever. Also COD is simply a cheater heaven where their so obsessed with their rank they will cheat so they can go up that extra level... CLEVER YOU!!! Funny thing is since Rainbow Six 3, the best shooter ive played was a call of duty, call of duty 3. All i hear is it getting slagged off yet that game i never ran into nasty people and i always had fun because it was FUN and SIMPLE, with no complicated ranking system, weapon attachments or stupid perks, which i think are just glorified power ups and something for people who just cant play shooting games. All in all fun shooters have dissapeared and in place we have to play rank orientated games full of cheats and nasty people.

With 95% of my deaths comming from grenades, grenade launchers or knifes its a JOKE to call this a shooting game. I give it 2 stars for the fact when i first got this game, it was brilliant until people brought this who quite simply are way too dedicated to ranking up.

First of all, the campain in this game lasts around 6 hours, which is far too short. While it lasts its a blast, however the story is ridiculously OTT and not very well explained. You will often be playing a mission and be wondering - why am I here/what am I doing? If you were to review the single player alone it would only be a 3/4 star game.

However, the single player is only a third of the game, and with the spec ops and online play, there is much more to see. These modes are excellent and give the game endless lasting appeal.

Online multiplayer is unbelievably addictive, tonnes of rewards, unlockables, etc, it will take over your life!!! Weapons and maps are far improved over COD4 and there is far less camping going on.

The multiplayer on this is worth the asking price alone, but I hope infinity ward do not neglect the plot and duration of the campaign mode again in the sequel...

Multiplayer is a horrid campy affair thanks to the random package drops that they have included for some insane reason. It is now possible to camp and get 4 easy kills, collect an airdrop and hey presto... it contains an armoured helicopter. this just breeds camping and has took what made COD4 MP so special away from the game.

Search and destroy now contains harriers, helicopters etc... which makes it near impossible to disarm a bomb when they are overhead... guess what.... this breeds camping.

COD4 MP was perfect, this is over the top and geeks and boosters love it.

COD4.... if it ain't broke... don't fix it.

Having played Call of Duty 4 non stop for 2 years I was very much looking forward to Modern Warfare 2. I enjoyed the single player game, the spec ops is excellent, but its in multiplayer where the hardcore gamers have been let down terribly, whoever designed the maps is an idiot, every map is perfect for those gamers with little talent and who like to camp, if you move you die and that sickens me, so if hiding in corners is your thing, you'll love Modern Warfare 2, thanks Infinity Ward for ruining what should have been a great game.

Customer rating: 2 out of 5 stars It's just not COD

i have every single COD game out there for the 360 and quite frankly this one sucked. Yes the campain was good but it was also short, spec ops is no where near as good as nazi zombies and onine play is just well ridiculous.

Now im not just saying this because im doing bad on multiplayer, infact i have a 1.7 K/D and prestige 1 but im saying it so you wont be let down.

The online system includes:-

Age range-starts at 5 quite litterally

Abuse- party chat is not allowed in majority of game modes, causing players in some cases aving to unplug there mics just so they dont have to listen to RACIST and other types of abuse.

Tactics- You now have a whole load of new kill streaks that you can choose from but people either boost for them in a match or they camp.
Another common set-up is the commando perk and lightweight perk which mean someone can sprint around the map at the speed of light and and jump towards you with a knife like superman, its just not realistic and not cod.

Cheats-There is alot of ingame boosters that i have seen, a couple of people have mentioned about this already on other reviews. People letting the other player get kills for a nuke(25 kills streak) either for some pathetic emblem that they dont deserve or for w/l. Also there are people who have hacked the game so they can somehow go into a match and get one kill for one prestige, and i know this from various sites showing you and the amount of messages i get from recent players asking if you if you would like to do it for money (i report them and nothing happens). Although few there are mods out there that modify there health, damage etc so be warned.

That pretty much concluded my review on COD and one more thing the new map pack is coming out yes it has 5 maps (2 of which they had to do no work for) i think but 1200 MP is extortionate price considering 10 quid for 5 maps when you pay about 30-40 quid for the game which includes a campaign, spec ops and loads of maps. But hey this review isnt about the new maps its about COD not being up to expectations and standars. If you ask me COD 3 was the best, it was just so much fun nobody played for k/d, then WAW was also great fun but nowhere near as good as COD3

COMPLETELY agree with everything PlatinumNexus has said. I too got this game on day of release, completed the campaign and then went online with it. It was brilliant for the first couple of days, all genuine shooter fans playing, however, due to moving flat i had no broadband for about a month and when i came back on line everything had changed..........for the worse. All my deaths came from either Noob tubes, rocket launchers, pleople running around with dual shotguns and others running around at 100mph knifing people. All in all it made for a very unenjoyable experience. Also, the torrent of abuse that floats around is beyond belief!!! It isn't even competitve-but-friendly banter, it is actually extremely offensive and i have also heard racist comments towards others. I have now resorted to playing without my headset and i play on "hardcore" team deathmatch, where there isnt so many Noob tubes and there is actually a bit of skill involved. Overall, i dont play this game as much as i thought i would and have sometimes gone back to the original Modern Warfare instead.

This was a good attempt to recapture the genius that was COD: Modern Warfare, however the story line is only fun for the first or second play after that it does become tedious and the lack of co-op is very annoying The special ops were great fun and challenging and with the addition of co-op in these tasks it becomes very fun. the As for the multilayer my initial thought was that it was very slick and fun, but after a few weeks of play i couldn't bare to go on it again. This was down to a number of factors; Campers - Every game, every map, every time there will be one player with no skill but knowledge of the map and just knows where to sit and pick people off with great annoyance. Last Stand - you successfully out skill a player then bam, you're dead as he is there on the floor being allowed a second chance. My final point is weapon modifications, two in particular; Akimbo - Just why oh why! People running around with akimbo rangers are the lowest of the low in my eyes, man up and fight with real skill and finally; Thermal Scope - Takes so much skill out of being a sniper, the best part of sniping is looking about carefully for any movement and observing with great attention to detail, with thermal you just see white figures running about making it beyond easy! This just seems to help those who lack skill and that cant be bothered to do anything about it. Final thoughts: It's worth buying for a few months play but prepared to be annoyed at individuals on multilayer and the lack of replay value on campaign.

Customer rating: 3 out of 5 stars Not their fault...or is it???

Let me start by saying i am a huge fan of the rest of the series, even the treyarch ones....
But now onto this...where to start, the single player...hmmm,nice but too short, far too short...and really no different to MW1,although the spec ops missions do add a little extra, and when played on veteran, some of these are real tough.
The Multiplayer is where this game falls far below expectations for me,and not because of glaring flaws with the game, but much more to do with the way a significant portion of people actually choose to play it(and trust me,i use the word "play" advisedly!),some may feel it is unfair to judge an online game by the antics of the players, but i feel it is rather difficult to ignore the fact that that the game almost seems to encourage incredibly bad gameplay(camping with thermal sights anyone, along with heartbeat sensors and incredibly overpowered kill streak awards that actually reward this style of play),it is a shame that no effort seems to have been put to avoid players like tis(easy ,surely to add limitations on weapon types etc for people wanting a more pure and sporting type of game???)so it really is the fault of Infinity Ward for allowing the jerks to ruin it for everyone else,or is it just me???

Customer rating: 1 out of 5 stars The right package in the wrong envelope!

Dont get me wrong ive played every COD there is, to date they have been very entertaining but this latest version is stale and it doesnt work.
Single player:, standard plot about terrorists a good mix of situations you are fighting in, cliched plot, too short, easy and predictable. so I give it 1 star out of 2.5
Multiplayer: Theyve tried to make this like ghost recon, and given it a more tactical approach, it doesnt work its far too easy to kill opposition weapons are way too overpowered, juggernaut has been ommitted. Connections are wavery at best giving either you or the enemy a ridiculous advantage in detection and elimination.
The game has made 80% of players camp to achieve their killstreak awards which give individuals stupid advantages and overpowering, I think Infinity ward thought ye cod with ghost recon, But it doesnt work, even when you play it tactically and win theres just no fun to be had when playing online at all, its just not exciting.
PS I am a good player and have liked previous cod's too date but im trading this garbage in!

Customer rating: 3 out of 5 stars not up to the hype

I seem to be disagreeing with most people on here but this isn't the greatest game ever ! Its not that its a bad game single player mode is woefully short & basically consists of you going round shooting everything that moves for about 5 hours you don't have to think what you're doing because if you die there's a checkpoint every 10 yards or so,so you just respawn ! Yawn ! The graphics though are superb & some of the detail is amazing its a pity you don't have more time to marvel at them as your squad is constantly urging you to hurry up,move move, come on etc ! The multiplayer is where this games at though & where it really comes alive but if everyone says thats what these games are for why bother with a singleplayer especially if it's half arsed ! So its not a bad game but i don't think its the greatest i like a bit more to my games rather than running round like a headless chicken shooting everything roll on bfbc2
